Anurag Thakur seemed to be in a proactive state as he announced June 10 as the deadline set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for selecting the new head coach. There have been a lot of speculations about the position of the head coach of arguably the most popular cricket nation. While Rahul Dravid and Daniel Vettori have been the names floating around as the contenders, it will be interesting to see who the BCCI ropes in.
“We will advertise for the post of coach today and by June 10 anyone can apply and short listing will be done after that,” quoted the newly appointed BCCI president Anurag Thakur at the BCCI headquarters.

He expressed that the board is keen on accepting applications and is inviting the interested candidates to apply for the post. He said that the short listing will be done after June 10. “We are keeping it open, we want people to come. They can come forward, apply and then we can look at the proposals, who are the applicants and who are the best for BCCI,” he quoted further.
This, however, would mean that India will fly to Zimbabwe without a head coach. India will play a short T20 and ODI series in Zimbabwe which begins on June 11. The appointment of new coach is set to be done before the national team leaves for their 4 match Test series in West Indies, a tour that is scheduled in the July and August window.
Earlier, Sourav Ganguly, one of the members on the advisory board for the appointment of the coach, had quoted that the appointment of head coach would take some time. India have been without the services of the head coach since their semi-final exit from the ICC World Cup 2015. Duncan Fletcher served as the head coach for India in the World Cup.
