Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still not ready to accept some of the reforms recommended by the Lodha Panel and is expected to wait with anxiety for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the matter on December 5. Even though the board didn’t take any decision on the recommendations at a special general meeting, but it has been reported that the state associations have asked the BCCI to keep a Plan B ready in case the verdict of Supreme Court is not in their favour.
The Lodha Committee has been trying to appoint former union Home Secretary GK Pillai as observer and removal of all BCCI office bearers. “Senior office-bearers said we have to wait until December 5. Any decision taken can be Contempt of Court. He also advised that state units will have to keep a Plan B ready. If the court gives a verdict we have to abide by it and change constitution accordingly,” a state unit official was quoted by PTI.
The existing state of affairs was maintained by the members during the Special General Meeting. Two associations Vidarbha and Tripura who have agreed to implement Lodha committee’s reforms were absent.
BCCI Secretary Ajay Shirke explained that the absence was perhaps due to delay in flights landing because of foggy conditions. “There was a feeling members are having a different opinion. Vidharbha and Tripura did not come due to fog. We explained the situation and clarified with them again. They reiterated their stand that was taken in the first SGM on October 1. Almost all recommendations agreed upon except a few. We will wait for December 5 Supreme Court hearing,” BCCI Secretary Ajay Shirke told reporters.
The relation between BCCI and Lodha Committee has seen its fair share of dramas. The BCCI had even threatened to pull out the men’s team from playing in next year’s Champions Trophy in England.
