Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) keeps getting embroiled in one controversy after the other. In a fresh turn of events, the BCCI has reportedly not dealt out the payments due to the officials, scorers and match analysts for their services in domestic cricket in the ongoing season. According to report by, 115 umpires, 62 match referees, 170 video analysts and 150 scorers are yet to be paid their daily allowances by the governing body.

With the Duleep Trophy and two rounds of Ranji Trophy already having been played in the current season, the non-payment of the officials comes as a jolt. As daily allowance, each official was slated to receive Rs.750. However, most of them are jittery to write to BCCI about the matter, owing to the fear of becoming a soft target and being sidelined in future matches.

Payments usually made within a few days, more than a month went by this time around

Explaining the predicament the match officials and everybody else involved is currently facing, a video analyst said, “The board needs to understand that video analysts and scorers don’t come from big families. Many of them do small jobs to earn a living. I was asked to do three back-to-back matches. It will be tough for me to spend money for the next 20 days’ trip.”

The delay may be attributed to BCCI’s decision of transferring the daily allowance money online rather than handing the participants a cash remuneration on the first day of a match. Reportedly, the BCCI had cited some issues with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as the reason for the delay, but there has been no update on the situation ever since.

Further, scorers and video analysts in India have also been deprived of the transportation facilities that they’re entitled to. Prior to a season’s commencement, the BCCI holds a seminar for umpires, video analysts, scorers and match referees in various cricketing academies. While each video analyst and scorer is entitled to receive the fare of second AC transport to the seminar, all of them have had to purchase their own tickets.

A match referee also rightly pointed towards the issue of unpaid allowances and implored for an increase in it, as the umpires and match referees receive accommodation in five-star hotels where food items are anything but affordable. “The other day, I paid Rs 1,200 for curd rice. There are state players who get Rs 1,500 and we get half of it. The board was never like this before. Many of us are on the road for the past three weeks,” he said.
