BJP MP Subramanian Swamy extends his support to MS Dhoni

The call for MS Dhoni’s ouster from the Indian cricket team has caused furore amongst eminent personalities and the masses alike. While people have defended the former Indian captain vociferously, a new addition to his list of admirers came in the form of BJP MP, Subramanian Swamy. Swamy, in a recent tweet, criticised people for their unfair criticism of MS Dhoni.

MSD had been bestowed with many nicknames by his ardent followers. The one title that has stuck with him is that of the “Best Finisher” of the game. However, in recent times, the 36-year old has come under the scanner for not putting up similar fast-paced batting performances. The recently concluded India-New Zealand series sparked the raging debate over whether or not Dhoni should find a spot in the T20 side henceforth.

BJP MP speaks up for MS Dhoni

Veteran cricketers such as Virender Sehwag, Ajit Agarkar, VVS Laxman and Akash Chopra have criticised Dhoni for his constantly diminishing strike rate in the game and have suggested for him to be replaced by younger players. Laxman, in particular, cited the vast difference in MSD and Virat Kohli‘s strike rate as a potential reason for replacing the former by younger blood in the shortest format of the game. Agarkar went on to say that India would not rue the absence of Dhoni in the T20 format. Dhoni’s scores in the last 4 T20Is that he’s played stand at 0*, 49, 7*and 13 respectively.

However, former cricketing legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri were quick to rubbish these demands for ousting Dhoni. BJP MP, Subramanian Swamy joined the list as he tweeted in support of Captain ‘Cool’ and termed him the “Renaissance man”. He further condemned the “continuing targeting” of the legendary cricketer and his tweet was subsequently praised by the Twitterati.
