New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner was in a great form in the recently concluded series against the English side. However, the left-hander suffered a knee injury during the ODI-series against the same side. It will also force him to stay away from the cricket for as long as 9 months. He has a bone defect in his knee.

Santner was set to play under former India skipper MS Dhoni in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but the sudden injury to the spinner means that Chennai-based Chennai Super Kings will have to alter now as the all-rounder is going to miss the upcoming season. Santner was grabbed by the CSK for his base price of 50 Lakhs. He was among the best buys of the auction and it was discussed all across the social media that CSK has managed to bag a really good player at a bargain price.

Was in tremendous form with bat and ball

Santner played a few handy knocks for the Kiwis in the 5-match ODI series against England coming low down the order. He scored 216 runs in the 4 innings of the series where he got to bat. However, Santner bowled economically but couldn’t get a lot of wickets during the series.

New Zealand Cricket while naming the squad for the Test series against England didn’t include the 26-year-old left-arm spinner. The board confirmed that Santner played the series with some discomfort and the scans confirmed that there was some bone defect which got worse.

The Kiwi board has named 31-year-old leg-spinner Todd Astle as a replacement for the Test series. However, CSK is yet to decide the replacement for Santner. One of the CSK official while talking on the issue said that they will take a call after having a conversation with their head coach Stephen Fleming and captain MS Dhoni.
