Both Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were aware of Shami's name missing on the contract list says BCCI
The Indian skipper and coach knew about Shami's exclusion from the contract renewals.
The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) announced the annual contracts for Indian cricketers on behalf of the BCCI on Tuesday. All the cricketers were awarded their respective pay structures in accordance with the latest guidelines introduced by the board. The contract list contained the names of all the star Indian players who are regular features in the team in all the three formats of the game, but a major name of fast bowler Mohammed Shami was missing from the central contractual tally.
However, on the very same, Shamiâs wife accused him of having extra-marital affairs and she claims that the cricketerâs whole family has tortured her both physically and mentally.
Should personal life affect professional relations?
The BCCI cleared the whole controversy regarding Shamiâs central contract stating that the bowlerâs contract has been put on hold because his wife has lodged an official complaint against him. In a recent conversation, a senior board official revealed that ethical reasons play a major role in these situations. It is also an important fact that had BCCI awarded Shami his central contract despite these extreme allegations by his wife.
âBCCI is in a bit of dilemma because there is a question of ethics involved here. Anyone can say that itâs purely a personal issue and has nothing to do with his professional life. That argument can be taken. On the other hand, some might accuse BCCI that a player has been rewarded despite such serious allegations, including an attempt to murder, are being leveled against him by his wife,â said the senior BCCI official as quoted by Times Now.
CoA took the final decision
As per these reports by Times Now, it was also quite clear that both the Indian captain Virat Kohli and the head coach Ravi Shastri were made aware regarding the details on this whole controversy about putting Shamiâs contract on hold. The reports also suggested that the pacemanâs name was on the list till Sunday but was put on hold after the complaint registered by his wife.
âIt was a call from COA on Wednesday asking BCCI to put Shamiâs name on hold till further decision that cleared the air,â further added the official.
