Sylhet Sixers have lodged an official complaint with the Bangladesh Premier League after one of the franchise’s bowler was made to bowl seven deliveries in an over. The bizarre incident took place during the match between Rangpur Riders and Sixers in Chittagong on Tuesday as umpire  Mahfuzur Rahman made pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi bowl an extra delivery in the 16th over of the innings even though the bowler had explained his stand.

“Rabbi bowled an extra ball,” said Nabil Samad, Sylhet’s left-arm spinner, after the Sixers’ four-wicket defeat, which came with two balls to spare. Rabbi reminded the umpire of the number of balls before bowling the extra delivery, but that did not change anything. I don’t know if the umpire checked with the third umpire at the time; I was not at the scene at the time.”

Sylhet out of contention

It was a major defeat for Sylhet as they are now out of the contention for a place in the playoffs. The franchise confirmed the news of them registering a complaint against the incident.  “We have lodged a complaint,” added Sylhet media manager Tamzidul Islam during a press conference.

“Our captain pointed out the error during the match on the field. The third umpire cross-checked and told us to lodge a written complaint.” he said.

Riders win a thriller

Post the defeat, Sylhet skipper Nasir Hossain said they were 10-15 runs short. “We were 10-15 short. Fletcher is a key player and Babar Azam is a good player and Bresnan closed it out well for us,” he said. Babar scored 54 for the Sixers while Sabbir Rahman contributed with a solid 44.  Nazmul Hossain scalped three wickets in his four overs. For Rangpur Riders, Brendon McCullum scored 43 while Ziaur Rahman made 36, opening the innings. The Riders chased 174 with two balls to spare.
