Bowlers will have to perform better if CSK wants to win the tournament: Irfan Pathan

In spite of posting a mammoth total of 218/4 on the board, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side ended up on the losing side. Kieron Pollard scored a breath-taking 87* off just 34 deliveries to allow the Mumbai Indians (MI) to post a famous win over the Chennai side.

And, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has opened up on the bowling attack that is at the disposal of the CSK side. Pathan opined that even though the Mumbai Indians (MI) batted well, there was some very poor bowling that was on show by the CSK side.

Pathan further added that the Chennai side does not have any bowler who can bowl yorkers. Pathan also said that while the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side has Mohammed Siraj, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have Jasprit Bumrah, and Delhi Capitals have Rabada, the CSK side does not have any bowler.

“Absolutely and that was seen today as well. Yes, the Mumbai Indians batted very well but if you see the shots, it was all bad bowling. I feel you need to especially have bowlers who can bowl the yorkers, the Chennai Super Kings do not have any such bowler.

Irfan Pathan also said that CSK has a good all-round side, and has 7 or 8 bowling options at their disposal. But then, the Chennai outfit does not have those bowlers who can defend runs at the death. Pathan further opined that the ball was wet, and a bowler faces difficulties while bowling the yorker when the ball gets wet.’

Pathan also revealed that Sam Curran showed how to bowl good yorkers, but apart from him nobody bowled yorkers properly. The former Indian cricketer concluded by stating that CSK will surely have to perform better to win the IPL this year.

“There is no doubt CSK has a good all-round team, they have 7-8 bowling options but they do not have one or two bowlers who can defend the runs at the death on difficult pitches. The ball was not getting wet today.

If the ball gets wet, you face a lot of difficulties in bowling the yorker. Sam Curran showed how it can be done, bowled some good yorkers but after that one over, no one bowled yorkers properly. They will have to perform better if CSK wants to win the tournament,” concluded Pathan.
