The tournament’s biggest team Dhaka Dynamites are back on top after a dismal start and they currently look impregnable on their home turf. They as a unit are making life difficult for other opponents and the way they tormented Sylhet in the previous was a testament to their stardom and quality.

The Titans too have pulled off some decent results thus far, which just spices up things and makes this contest a marquee banter for the season. On the points table, both sides are not far away from each other, with 2 wins and a defeat after their name. But Dhaka’s run rate sky-rocketed after Shahid Afridi lit the Shere Bangla Stadium with a vintage performance.

This tournament has been all about the spinners, with most teams opting to hand over the new ball to them. Few teams have forgotten the option of using fast bowlers with the new ball and bringing in their swing into play. Well, that’s quintessential sub-continent, rather quintessential Bangladesh, who love laying slow tracks that grip.

Dhaka Dynamites (Playing XI): Shahid Afridi, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Jahurul Islam (wk), Abu Hider Rony, Mosaddek Hossain, Evin Lewis, Cameron Delport, Mohammad Shahid, Khaled Ahmed

Khulna Titans (Playing XI): Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Chadwick Walton (wk), Michael Klinger, Rilee Rossouw, Mahmudullah (c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ariful Haque, Jofra Chioke Archer, Mosharraf Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Abu Jayed

Focus will be on

Shahid Afridi (Dhaka)

When Shahid Afridi burst onto the scene all those years ago, it was evident he was going to have a huge impact on the game. He did do some wonders during his International career and now, here he is with the Dhaka side. With his flabbergasting rendition on the other day, he announced his arrival in a grandiose way. If he clicks, the bowlers will have another forgettable day at Mirpur.

Chadwick Walton (Khulna)

Although Khulna Titans didn’t expect Chadwick Walton to become their talisman, the Caribbean opener has been terrific thus far. He displayed some brilliant strokeplay in the three games he’s played thus far and is looking to make a significant impact on the tournament. Well, it’s in Windies blood to relish T20 Leagues and Walton is another addition to that list filled with entertainers.

Playing Combinations

Dhaka Dynamites

No one knows who proposed the idea of sending Shahid Afridi and Evin Lewis to open, but that worked brutally in a good sense. Another on song batsman Cameron Delport will be coming in to bat at number 3, with the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, Mossadek Hossain available in the middle order.

Sunil Narine and Afridi worked sensationally in tandem and picked up 7 wickets collectively, giving away just 22 runs in 8 overs. Another world class spinner Shakib Al Hasan makes this unit one of the finest spinning contingents of all time. Abu Hider has been terrific this season, and he will be accompanied by Mohammad Shahid and Cameron Delport in the seam bowling department.

Khulna Titans

Caribbean keeper-batsman Walton will open the innings alongside local player Nazul Hossain Shanto. The experienced Aussie Michael Klinger at number three is their mainstay and the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Ariful Haque, Mahmudullah, Carlos Brathwaite and the all-rounder Jofra Archer will follow in the middle order.

One of the few teams in the tournament who are dependent on their fast bowlers more than spinners, Mahmudullah will once again go with Abu Jayed, Shafiul Isla, and Jofra Archer in the seam bowling department. They only had Mosharraf Hossain and Mahmudullah in the spin department, with an extra seaming option in Carlos Brathwaite.

StatAttack

73 – Dhaka chased down their target against Sylhet in 73 balls, which happens to be the largest victory in BPL history in terms of balls remaining.

29 – Evin Lewis needs another 29 runs to complete 5,000 runs in competitive cricket (First-Class + List-A + T20s)
