Brendon McCullum returns to the Rugby Field after 18 years

While former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has several exploits to his name in the field of cricket, he certainly has many more to his name in the grand scheme of things for Rugby as well. Considered to be a sportsman in multiple disciplines in school, ‘Baz’ was considered an excellent Rugby player. Thus, after 18 seemingly long years, McCullum made it back to the field of Rugby playing for the Matamata B team.

McCullum also sustained an injury while not being able to inspire his team to victory.”It was meant to be a bit of a soft entry from a contact point of view, but that was never going to happen given it was a local derby. I had to get through that first tackle and it may have been a little bit late, but it wasn’t too bad,” he told Radio Live.

The 36-year old also reportedly suffered an injury to his groin. Asked what part of him hurt most the next morning, McCullum quipped: “My liver”.

The former New Zealand skipper also recalled the time he played alongside All-Blacks pivot Carter in High School. He also revealed how he was rated a lot higher than the man who would become an important figure for the All-Blacks. “He came on for me at the back end of the first game, then in the last game I played the whole game and he came on at wing,” McCullum said in 2014, adding with a grin that the selectors “clearly got it wrong”.
