Former Kiwis skipper Brendon McCullum has retired from international cricket but is still going great guns in the private T20 tournaments held all across the globe. He looks fit and despite age being not by his side he is a pretty flamboyant player and knows his strengths and limitations. He is currently playing for the Gujarat Lions in IPL and looked in good touch during the first 7 matches.

Though his side hasn’t played to their potential in the tournament so far but McCullum has looked in good touch opening the innings. He has got his team off to flying starts in most occasions but he hasn’t got enough support from the middle order which had led to his team’s downfall. During an interaction with Sportstar, McCullum revealed about his future in IPL and what he wishes to do once he is done with the game as a player.

“I am probably as fit as I have been for a number of years; enjoying the competition, enjoying the thrill of playing in these tournaments. Being able to play with guys from different cultures. I’ll keep doing it as long as I can. Then after that, probably I have got a bit to offer in terms of a coaching point of view for these T20 tournaments. That’s something that I look at down the line as well. But in the meantime, I am enjoying the playing; still being competitive and the music is still in your ears,” McCullum as quoted as saying by Sportstar.

McCullum set the tournament ablaze in 2008 when he smashed a scintillating 158 in the very first match of the history of IPL. He literally smashed the Royal Challengers bowlers all around the Chinnaswamy Stadium and his innings was instrumental in giving a Launchpad to IPL and there was looking back from there on.

When asked how life changed since April 18, 2008, McCullum said, “Huge. Ten years ago, I was 25 years of age. Very much trying to cut my teeth on the international circuit. Even though I had been around for five years, I never really had a splash as such. I promised a little bit but never actually delivered anything. I guess that was the first breakout innings where people actually sort of stood up and took notice. Ever since then, it has been amazing. It’s been phenomenal. My profile in India has been really strong.”
