It was all the way back in 2002 when Australian speedster Brett Lee struck his maiden ODI half-century. This came in the 12th match of the tri-nation ODI series when the Aussies were up against South Africa. Sixteen years into this incident, Cricket Australia decided to share a video where Lee was seen smacking the bowlers all over the park on his way to the half-century.

With the three-match series against the Proteas starting in about four days time, Cricket Australia, on their Twitter handle reminisced this memorable event.

“Binga goes bang! With four days until the #AUSvSA ODIs, enjoy @BrettLee_58 whacking the Proteas to collect his maiden ODI fifty back in 2002!” the tweet read. In the same video, CA reminded the fans that there were four days left for the ODI series. Also, the dates and venues for these three games were shared.

The first ODI will be played on 4 November 2018 at Perth. This will be followed by two more games on 9 November 2018 and 11 November 2018. These two games will be played at Adelaide and Hobart respectively.

In his reply to this video, the cricketer turned commentator trolled himself. The 41-year-old termed this innings to be ‘fluke’. He also added the ‘rolling on the floor laughing’ emoji at the end of his reply.

The story of that match

In that game, Australia needed to win against South Africa by a huge margin and gain a bonus point. However, after having won the toss and electing to bat first, the hosts were squandered to 195 for the loss of 7 wickets. At this stage, a brilliant innings came off the willow of Brett Lee out of nowhere. He got to an unbeaten 36-ball 50 to propel Australia to 283 for 7 in 50 overs.

However, his efforts went in vain despite Australia pulling off a win. They won the match by 33 runs but failed to get a bonus point. Hence, they didn’t qualify for the final of the tri-series.
