Zimbabwe pacer Brian Vitori has been called up by the ICC for suspect bowling action. Vitori was a prominent part of the Zimbabwe squad that lost in the final of the Tri-Series to Sri Lanka. While the loss in the final was itself a blow to the hosts as they were handed a six-wicket loss in the final after overcoming the West Indian bowlers.

Vitori had been suspended from bowling in January 2016 following accusations of illegal action. However, the fact of the matter remained that he was reinstated once evidence of ‘remedial work’ had been done, something that permitted the ICC to allow him to bowl soon after that.

However, this time around, Vitori has been once again reported for illegal and suspect action. With Vitori being reported again, he will be required to submit to further testing within 14 days. He is, however, permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known.

However, in spite of the losses handed to them in the Test series and the subsequent ODI Tri-Nation series by Sri Lanka, the Zimbabweans are on the road to redemption. Especially, at the moment, they have been joined by their former captain Heath Streak who has linked up with the team in a coaching capacity.

Streak had earlier been affiliated with the Bangladesh national cricket team after completing his coaching badges. As a bowling coach, Streak managed to unearth talents such as Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Al-Amin Hossain. He was also able to correct the illegal bowling action of Taskin Ahmed when the latter was reported during the ICC World T20 in February.

After that, Streak also served in a coaching capacity with the Gujarat Lions before linking up with Zimbabwe for a stint in the coaching role. Whether he is able to correct the action of Brian Vitori remains to be seen.
