Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary was named the best cricketer by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for an amazing 2016-17 domestic season. Tiwary had played many match-winning knocks for his team in the season. The skipper has a great record in first-class cricket and also has a vast experience that has helped the team over the years. Tiwary has also been a good captain leading a young Bengal team.

Apart from the great domestic season, Tiwary had a great run in this year’s IPL too. He was a part of this year’s runners up – Steve Smith led Rising Pune Supergiant. For the team, he played the role of a floater, where they used the right-hander as a middle order batsman or finisher depending on the situation. He scored 324 runs at a strike rate of 137 in the season.

Career so far

Manoj made his debut for India in Australia, 2008. He has played 12 games and scored 287 runs including a hundred. He has also represented the team in 3 T20 matches, but couldn’t make a significant contribution. However, it has been a long since he last represented the Men in Blue.

 CAB’s Annual Awards

Along with Manoj Tiwary, many other cricketers will be awarded by the CAB. Pacer Ashok Dinda was named the best bowler, Abhimanyu Easwaran will be the gentleman cricketer of the year and debutant Abhishek Raman was named the best Under-23 cricketer. CAB will present the awards to these cricketers at a gala CAB’s Annual Awards function on July 27 at the historic “The Eden Gardens.”

The CAB has decided to send a young side for the tournament and rest all the experienced guys. The team will be led by Sudeep Chatterjee and coach Sairaj Bahutule is in charge of the team.
