There was cause for concern earlier today in Darwin when Cameron Bancroft was hit in the throat by a bouncer. Reports have gone on to suggest that Bancroft hit the ground immediately and stayed there for several minutes before a stretcher arrived and rushed him to Darwin hospital.

Having been banned for a period of nine months following the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa earlier this year, a tearful Steve Smith and David Warner made statements before subsequently being banned for a period of one year. Bancroft, who was an accomplice has also received a shorter nine-month ban.

However, the ban does not cover the club level cricket, something all three cricketers have been participating in. With Warner and Smith taking part in the Global Canada T20 League, Bancroft has returned to Australia where he is keeping in touch with the sport. Cricket Australia’s website said on Sunday that the ball struck Bancroft in the throat after he miscued a lap sweep while batting for his Desert Blaze team.

Smith, Warner, and Bancroft on the path to return

All three players who were banned have now seemingly come back on the path of returning to international cricket. With all of them keeping in touch with the sport in one way or the other, their form and class hasn’t been lost one bit and they will be in the reckoning for selection once their ban is complete.

Tim Paine is now the leader of the depleted Australian pack of cricketers. With a few injuries to the side as well, the Aussies have swooped down the ODI and Test rankings while giving a decent account of themselves in T20 international cricket, so to speak. They will play host to India later this year.
