The legend of Virat Kohli is getting bigger and better with each passing day. With the bat, the 28-year old has achieved feats which took many great players an entire career to achieve and India’s main man has only got better with the captain’s armband on display. Kohli has been prolific in each of the three formats of the game and certainly enjoys leading the men in blue from the front.

As a captain, Kohli has scored 2,560 runs at an average of 59.53 in 29 Test matches so far while as non-captain the right-handed batsman fetched 2,098 from 31 matches at an average of 41.43. Kohli took over the Test captaincy from MS Dhoni during India’s tour of Australia in 2014 and hasn’t looked back since then.

Captaincy makes some player better: Gavaskar

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar who is known as one of the finest batsmen to have played the game, praised Kohli’s sublime performance and said that captaincy has actually helped him do better. “It can happen and it does happen to a lot of players that captaincy actually makes them better players. Some players under the pressure of captaincy can go down in their performances but Virat actually is relishing the responsibility,” Gavaskar told “NDTV”.

He also added that Kohli leads from the front and has set an example for the entire team. He added that the Indian captain puts a price on his wicket and always looks to score as many runs as possible.”He is wanting to do well for his team and he is taking the team along with him. Because there is a common goal and they (Indian team) are trying to be the best team in the world, it’s his (Kohli) responsibility to score a 100 and put a price tag on his wicket.”
