Prior to the commencement of the 2018 Asia Cup, India, being the defending champions, were deemed to be amongst the firm favourites to win the championship. They don’t have Virat Kohli, their all-format skipper, with them and yet have been able to comprehensively win their first two matches of the multi-nation tournament without any fuss whatsoever.
After surviving a massive scare against Hong Kong, India came out all guns blazing against arch-rivals Pakistan and brushed them aside by eight wickets. Rohit Sharma lost the toss, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise for them as fast-bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar nipped out Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq in quick succession to push them on the backfoot.
Jasprit Bumrah also dished out peanuts for the batsmen to work with. Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik cobbled together 82 runs for the third wicket and brought their team back into the match. However, Kuldeep Yadav nipped out Babar and thereafter Pakistan kept losing wickets at an alarming rate. Sarfraz Ahmedย couldn’t perform to expectations as well.
Celebrities pour accolades on Rohit and Co
In the end, it required a 37-run partnership between Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Amir to lift the Men in Green up to 162 runs. During the run-chase, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were cautious to start with, but stepped on the gas as the innings progressed, especially Rohit, who scored a 39-ball 52 to take the sting out of the Pakistani pace attack.
Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik blended caution with aggression and made sure India don’t suffer any hiccup while chasing the modest target. Following the Men in Blue’s jaw-dropping victory, celebrities from every nook and corner of the country wished them for the resounding show yesterday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Big cheer for India,
Cricket fans would have loved more of a contest. Pakistan never got into it, or rather, India never allowed them to.
Well done India!!!#PAKvIND #AsiaCup2018— Boman Irani (@bomanirani) September 19, 2018
