The No. 4 dilemma for the Indian team is far from over and speaking on the same lines, India Test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara shared his thoughts. Pujara spent the most time amongst Indian batsman in English county season preparing for the upcoming five-Test series against England.

He used his stint with Yorkshire before and after India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan to optimize his knowledge on English conditions. Though he did not set the grounds afire, he has been clinical in his preparations for the crucial series.

The 30-year-old batted at No. 4 in his last 2 Test innings, in Johannesburg against South Africa and in Bengaluru against Afghanistan. Having batted almost his career at No. 3, Cheteshwar Pujara spoke on how he would adapt to his new spot.

He said, “Not a major difference because you are still batting at the top of the order, you still have the same job of scoring runs for the team. It was a one-off situation where the team combination was such that I had to change my position. There is still some difference but you still have to do the job for the team.”

India face an uphill task

The English summer is turning out to be quite tricky as Virat Kohli’s men succumbed to a 1-2 defeat in the ODIs after winning the T20I leg. Now with the series evenly poised, it all boils down to the upcoming 5 Test encounter which starts from August 1.

While the Indian top order has been predominantly consistent, it’s the middle order that the management is worried about. While constant experimentation hasn’t been able to resolve the problem, it is of utmost importance to find a suitable solution at the earliest.

On the other hand, the seamers will have to pitch in with wickets and step up to the occasion. Given India’s past record in red ball cricket against the Lions in their own backyard, Virat Kohli’s men face an uphill task as they aim to overturn history.
