The mindboggling 199 runs partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha on the 4th day of the 3rd Test against Australia in Ranchi has put the hosts in complete command of the penultimate Test. The duo batted the whole of the first two sessions of Day 4 which ensured India was in comfortable position and went past the Australian score. They batted with immense concentration consuming as many as 77.4 overs.
While Pujara went on to smash his 3rd double century, Saha wasn’t far behind either and went on to register his 3rd Test century and his 1st against the mighty Aussies. Saha was the aggressive partner among the two taking the Australian spinners on a consistent basis.
He stepped down the track on numerous occasions to punish Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe. The duo was hardly troubled by any of the bowlers during their marathon innings. The partnership might well prove to be the series-defining one considering the current scenario of the match.
After taking a substantial lead of over 150 runs, Jadeja removed David Warner and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon in quick succession to put the visitors on the backfoot. Following the end of the day’s play, the duo of Pujara and Saha continued their partnership off the field. First, they interacted with Ravi Shastri on their historic partnership and went to the massage table together to relax their bodies after a toiling day in the office.
Taking to their twitter handle, BCCI shared a picture of Saha and Pujara lying on the massage table with a caption “199 runs & 317 minutes later. The partnership continues on and off the field @Wriddhipops & @cheteshwar1 #TeamIndia #INDvAUS”. During their record-breaking partnership, Pujara also faced the most number of deliveries by an Indian batsman in Test cricket going past the legendary Rahul Dravid.
The match is surely tilted in India’s favour and only two results are possible in this match. With Jadeja looking in red hot wicket taking form, Australia has a big task on their hand tomorrow.
