Chris Gayle and his incredible power-hitting prowess need no introduction in the cricketing fraternity having witnessed so many of his blazing knocks over the years. Not many can match him in that regard unless that person is a certain Shahid Afridi. Both these players have entertained the audience profusely with their hitting and the mutual respect they share is also commendable.

The Carribean cricketer recently hit his 476th six in International cricket, which now puts him on level terms with Afridi on the list of most sixes in International cricket across all formats. Since the legendary all-rounder will no longer be donning the green jersey, Gayle will certainly be taking the lead in this prospect sooner rather than later.

But as reported by journalist Saj Sadiq via his official Twitter handle, Gayle has confirmed to Afridi that he will not go past his record by not hitting any sixes. He asked the former Pakistan captain to not worry as his record will be safe.

We both are great entertainers

The Jamaican clearly suggested that it’s a great pleasure to stay on level terms with Afridi. He reckons it’s fantastic to stay joint-first with the 38-year-old as they both are great hitters and entertainers in the game. If Gayle is being serious about it, he might be contemplating retirement from International cricket and it would come in as no surprise as his performances in recent times for Windies hasn’t been great.

But after watching Gayle over the years, one has to consider this as a light-hearted statement which just portrays his respect to a fellow legend. It’s also worth noticing that the third best in this list is a country mile away from two players (Brendon McCullum with 398 sixes).

“To be able to tie with Afridi with 476 sixes is great. I think I’ll keep it at that & hit no more 6s. I think we’re both big 6-hitters, entertainers & it’s fantastic to be joint first with Shahid Afridi. So boom-boom, don’t worry, your record is safe, okay,” the 38-year-old said.
