The acrimonious loss in the ODI series against Bangladesh 2-1 now witnesses the Windies moving into a much more comfortable format of cricket. Having won a couple of T20I tournaments and impressed quite a bit in the shortest format of the game, the Windies now enter the three-match T20I series a lot more confident as opposed to the ODIs.

Although Bangladesh remains a rather remarkable force to reckon with in T20Is, Carlos Brathwaite and his band of merry men will certainly be fancying their chances ahead of the much-awaited encounter. However, as far as team selection goes, the selectors have gone ahead with a shuffle in the pack as veteran Chris Gayle misses out on selection.

‘Cottrell added for variety in bowling’

Courtney Brown, the chairman of selectors for the Windies cricket board has come out and stated that Chris Gayle was rested and that Cottrell was added to the side in a bid to add some variety to the pace bowling attack. He also added that this was the similar side that did indeed perform well in the charity match in Lord’s earlier this year.

“We have rested Chris Gayle and have added left-arm pacer, Sheldon Cottrell for variety to the bowling attack. The team reflects the last squad that performed well in the charity match in the UK,” said Courtney Browne, the chairman of selectors.

Keemo Paul and Rovman Powell also keep their respective places in the side along with the returning Andre Russell from his one-year ban.

Windies T20I squad: Carlos Brathwaite (c), Samuel Badree, Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Fletcher, Evin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Chadwick Walton (wk), Kesrick Williams.
