The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to make a bunch of changes to fall in line with the new conflict of interest rule approved by the Supreme Court of India. Coaches and other officials who held positions with the national team were no longer allowed to be a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a result, Rahul Dravid had to quit his role as the head coach of Delhi Daredevils and Ravi Shastri could no longer commentate for matches.

However, the Committee of Administrators is reworking on the same as they wish to allow Dravid and Shastri to join the commentary panel for IPL 2019. The BCCI officials don’t quite agree with this move and think this is “another evidence of CoA’s capricious conduct”. An official called the CoA biased and said that they’ve not been honest to the job assigned to them by the honourable court.

CoA’s capricious conduct

“COA’s decision to take a relook at the conflict of interest rules in order to consider allowing Shastri and Dravid to commentate in the IPL is yet another evidence of their capricious conduct. They have not been honest to their job and have looked at everything through the prism of bias and as a result, though they are supervising the administration of the BCCI, their thinking is adversarial to the board and this reeks of dishonesty in their actions,” a source was quoted as saying by CricketNext.

The CoA has complete authority over the operations of the board as prescribed by the SC and the board officials think that they’re misusing the influence and rules that apply to the BCCI aren’t followed by the administrators. The official cited the example of CoA chief Vinod Rai who turned 70 but still is serving the post while no one is the BCCI is allowed to continue beyond that age.

CoA is hypocritical

“A prime example is their suo moto decision to disallow those disqualified from being office bearers to participate in even committee meetings of the BCCI while specifically asking N Ram to be a part of the committee even though he is above 70 and disqualified to be an office bearer.”

The source was quite agitated and further used a funny example saying that the way Rai has been acting is like the child who wants to bat twice in a match because he owns the bat.

Additionally, nothing can be more hypocritical than Vinod Rai chairing the COA meeting despite having turned a sweet 70 while himself having spared no effort to disallow everyone else who is a shade over 70. This is like the behaviour of the child who wants to bat twice merely because he owns the bat,” he added.
