Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has come up with a piece of advice for Virat Kohli amid the latter’s ordinary run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain has two 40-plus scores in six outings so far. However, he has been far away from his best. In his last outing against Delhi Capitals, Kohli scored 12 before getting run out.

Akhtar reckons Kohli can be dropped if he is not able to score consistently. He also believes there are many things going in Kohli’s head and the same has restricted him from bringing his A-game out. Notably, Kohli’s run tally has dried up in the last couple of years with his last international century coming in November 2019. He even relinquished India’s captaincy across formats and even stepped down as RCB skipper.

His batting form has certainly taken a hit amidst all this. Hence, Akhtar reckons Kohli should consider himself an ‘ordinary player’ and enjoy the game. He also stated Kohli should be dropped if he can’t deliver. “No one will be spared, not even Virat Kohli. Even he can be dropped if he does not perform. Some of the things I can’t even say now,” Akhtar said while speaking to Sportskeeda.

“Not one but there are 10,000 things going on in his head. He is a good person, a good player and great cricketer, but I want him to tell him to just focus, on one thing at a time. Leave TV, crowd and just consider yourself as an ordinary player, pick up the bat and just play,” he added.

Meanwhile, Akhtar has backed the 33-year-old to overcome his lean patch and make a strong bounce back. “He does not need to lose his focus. People have already started pointing fingers at Virat Kohli and it’s dangerous. He is a gutsy player and he is a gutsy man, I am sure he is going to pull it through. Virat Kohli is a very big cricketer,” he stated further.
