The Big Bash League (BBL) witnessed the first streaker incident this week when two young men walked in the playing area with their shorts in their hands. The Sydney Sixers were playing the Sydney Thunders in a Sydney Derby game and the Sixers thrashed Thunders by 8 wickets amidst the cricketing action brothers Josh Hudson and Chad Sharp, 27 ran into the ground stripping their clothes off.

Both Josh and Chad who are in their 20s dodged the security personnel and were running naked in front of 39,756 spectators. The guards were soon running all over the place chasing them and overpowered them. Josh Hudson was quoted by Daily Telegraph saying, “There was a bit of talk with the boys and we decided to do it,” he said, laughing. “The cricket was getting boring. We livened it up a bit. It had to be done.”

Both of them were fined $5500 each by Cricket Australia each for breaching in the playing area without authorisation. They have been banned from entering the Sydney Cricket Ground and the Sydney Football Stadium for two years. They will also face charges in the Waverley Local Court on March 1 and there is a possibility of additional charges to be pressed on them.

Hudson admitted it was a one-time thing and wouldn’t want to do that again. “I didn’t think it was going to happen like that,” he said. “I thought just a few mates would see me on TV.

“If anyone was offended, I’m sorry.

“Mum wasn’t too happy but dad is all right about it, I guess.”

Chad said that their stunt was the highlight of the match. They did an advance research on the fine they could face for something like that and even initiated a crowd fund. “I just sent a message out to my friends saying ‘I’m thinking about streaking can anyone throw in for the fine?” he said.

“And all our friends were like ‘oh yeah we’ll help you out’.”

“And then my cousin put a thing on Facebook and then we started getting support from Facebook friends.

“And once I sort of said I was going to do it I couldn’t back out.

“We thought about it then we thought ‘yep lets go’.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Thurtell was disappointed with their behaviour. “The Big Bash is a family-friendly event, many people attended with their children and those actions impacted their night, not to mention disrupting a great game of cricket,” he said.

“While some people find this behaviour entertaining, it is unacceptable at sporting events, especially those aimed at attracting families.

“A warning for anyone else who may consider their actions to be comical: if you unlawfully enter the field of play you face an automatic ban and $5500 in fines.”
