A cricket match has been stopped due to many reasons – rain, crowd disruption, wet outfield, snow, excessive heat, dust storms. There have been some rare instances like the death of a king, death of the prime minister which have also hampered a game. Sometimes emergency landing of the helicopter has also halted the proceedings. In the past there have also been cases of animals invading the ground to affect the game, dogs and even cats are frequent visitors on the field.
Cow invaded the pitch
There was a village cricket match going on between Kerridge and Mossley in England at Clarke Lane outfield in a Cheshire Cricket League match. A cow was watching the game amidst grazing from outside the boundary. According to reports, the cow was standing at the long-off boundary before it decided to join the action and started to charge at the players.
Some players got scared and tried to take evasive actions to save themselves from injury. The player at mid-on took ran away as the animal charged forward. The square-leg fielder did the same.
Umpire seemed unimpressed with the cow’s action
While players were trying to save themselves from the animal and looked scared, the umpire’s unimpressed reaction is one to leave anyone in splits. He didn’t even bother to take out his hands from his pockets while the cow ran riot. His bravery deserves a mention because an inch here or there would certainly have meant a serious injury from him. In spite of all the risk umpire’s coolness in that situation is winning the internet today.
The animal eventually had the share of fun and went off into the bushes surrounding the ground.
The video of the incident was posted on Twitter by Mossley Cricket Club, which is celebrating its 50th year.
It is certainly worth a watch and promises a laugh on how things turn up.
