The tournament is all but over for Barbados Tridents and to add insult to their injury, they will finish as the cellar dweller even if they win their last match of this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) against table-toppers Trinbago Knight Riders. However, the odds are heavily stacked against them as the team has lost all their previous four matches at Queens Park Oval.

The Knights, on the contrary, are in the middle of a purple patch as they have won five consecutive matches. After their resounding victory against Rayad Emrit’s Guyana Amazon Warriors at the very venue, Dwayne Bravo’s men will dearly wish to continue their winning streak. Another victory will also ensure that they will hold on to their top position in the points table.

Pitch

The track at Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain, has had something for everything. Batting hasn’t been tumultuous on the strip by any stretch of the imagination. However, the TKR bowlers showed that bowlers can reap benefits out of the wicket provided they hit the right channels. Teams are most likely to bowl first after winning the toss, bearing in mind the nature of the pitch.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Knight Riders are likely to remain unchanged. Chris Lynn will play his final match and will hope to end on a high after a lacklustre tournament thus far. The onus will be on Colin Munro to play another substantial knock. Brendon McCullum and Darren Bravo will shoulder the middle order. The bowlers put forth a combined effort in the previous match and will want to replicate their show.

Predicted XI

Colin Munro, Chris Lynn, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Brendon McCullum, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo (C), Javon Searles, Sunil Narine, Ali Khan, Fawad Ahmed, Khary Pierre

Barbados Tridents

The Tridents don’t have many alternatives to choose from. Indian-born Sunny Sohal and Dominic Drakes, who was taken to the cleaners in the last match, are likely to be retained. Hashim Amla and Shai Hope are the stalwarts in the middle order. Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Irfan will get another chance to spit venom on the batters. Most importantly, Jason Holder will have to motivate his team.

Predicted XI

Dwayne Smith, Sunny Sohal, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Hashim Amla, Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Jason Holder (C), Dominic Drakes, Imran Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan

Probable top performers

Colin Munro- Trinbago Knight Riders, Nicholas Pooran- Barbados Tridents

The prediction is for the Trinbago Knight Riders to continue their winning streak.
