The Jamaica Tallawahs are already out of the CPL after their defeat over St Lucia Zouks. It means that Barbados Tridents are in well in with a chance of making it through to the playoffs. The game against the Zouks is an important one for them as their last game is an away-affair versus Trinbago Knight Riders. However, the good news for them is that the Tridents have defeated both last time around.
In the meantime, the Zouks will play their last league game and are in requisite of a victory to keep them in a safer zone. Daren Sammy’s men got home against the Tallawahs and it was exactly the lifeline they needed. The records say that the Tridents won four out of their five encounters in Barbados versus the Zouks. But more than the hosts, the visitors will be desperate for a triumph.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch is expected to help the tweakers and batting second may not be an easy task. The extra pace could work to the advantage of the batters and hence, variations will be an important part. The Tridents are yet to win, chasing a target and hence, they would prefer, batting first. It could rain at 8 PM with a lot of dew in the second half. The temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius.
Team Combinations
Barbados Tridents
Johnson Charles and Jonathan Carter will form the left-right duo. The former has looked a tad indifferent though he isn’t completely out of touch. Carter has been impressive after being promoted to open the batting. JP Duminy, the Tridents’ leading run-scorer in the tournament, will hold the key in the middle. Shakib Al Hasan and Alex Hales provide firepower to the middle-order.
Holder has had his travails with the bat, not with the ball as he has 10 wickets at an economy of seven. Ashley Nurse can also send the leather a fair distance. In the bowling area, Hayden Walsh and Shakib won’t be easy prospects by any means. Harry Gurney has been tough to pounce on courtesy of his change of pace. Pacers Roshon Primus and Raymon Reifer haven’t under-performed either.
Probable XI
Johnson Charles (wk), Jonathan Carter, JP Duminy, Alex Hales, Shakib Al Hasan, Ashley Nurse, Jason Holder (C), Raymon Reifer, Roshon Primus, Hayden Walsh, Harry Gurney
St Lucia Zouks
Andre Fletcher is yet to come into his own with an average of 22. Rahkeem Cornwall had a lean patch of three games, but the hulk-like figure came back, scoring a blistering fifty versus the Tallawahs. Colin Ingram needs to sort his technique while facing quality spin attack. Colin de Grandhomme will want to make amends after bagging a golden duck in the previous encounter.
Viljoen hasn’t gotten a whole lot of wickets. However, he has churned out some useful runs in the middle. In the bowling department, Kesrick Williams has notched 12 wickets, albeit he’s conceded runs at 8.70. On the other hand, it’s Fawad, who has been able to keep the runs in check. The tweaker has nine wickets at an economy of 6.50. The rest of the bowlers need to support the duo.
