The Guyana Amazon Warriors found themselves in trouble against the Jamaica Tallawahs, having been reduced to 8/4. But the team showed character and put on 156 courtesy of skipper Shoaib Malik’s 45-ball 73 and Sherfane Rutherford’s 45. From there on , the Warriors made a stupendous comeback at the Providence and won the match by 77 runs, bowling the opposition out for 79 runs.
In their last league game, Guyana will face Trinbago Knight Riders at home and it’s a chance for them to go into the playoffs unbeaten. It’s an important game for TKR as in order to avoid the Eliminator, the visitors need to win the encounter and take themselves to second spot. Currently, Kieron Pollard and Co are fourth and have lost four out of their last five matches with one game being called off.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch will have plenty for the spinners and run-making will be difficult, especially when the slow bowlers are in operation. Pace on the ball can work to the batsmen’s favour. The track will slow down with the progression of the match and hence, batting first should be the way forward even with dew around. The conditions will be humid with the temperature around 27 degrees Celsius.
Team Combinations
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The likes of Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj have done exceptionally, but floundered in the last game. They’ll wish to go into the playoffs in good form. Shimron Hetmyer has gotten 203 runs, but is yet to bring forth his A-game. Nicholas Pooran hasn’t done much either apart from his 61* versus Barbados Tridents. The onus will again be on Malik to get the runs in the middle and death.
In the bowling department, Imran Tahir and Chris Green have given nothing away, having picked 13 wickets each. Keemo Paul has been on the expensive side, yet has 10 wickets. Leg-spinner Qais Ahmad has played only three games and has the best bowling average, 9.8, among the Warriors’ bowlers with seven wickets. Even the part-timers in Malik and Hemraj have economy rates of 6.
Probable XI
Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Shoaib Malik (C), Nicholas Pooran (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Qais Ahmad, Imran Tahir
Trinbago Knight Riders
TKR have lately been found wanting on slow wickets due to their lack in firepower in the spin department. Khary Pierre has kept a check on the runs with an economy rate of 7.11, but has only seven wickets to show for his efforts. The wily Sunil Narine is injured and that has hurt the Knights big time. The other spinners- Seekkuge Prasanna and Mark Deyal- haven’t done anything of sorts.
Pollard has rolled his arms over for six wickets and even Colin Munro bowled in the previous game, taking pace off the ball. However, it hasn’t helped TKR’s cause. Chris Jordan hasn’t looked all that great. James Neesham has lost his rhythm both with bat and ball. It goes without saying that the batting has to do a lot of work and that won’t be easy against an in-form Warriors’ bowling attack.
Probable XI
James Neesham, Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard (C), Denesh Ramdin (wk), Javon Searles, Mark Deyal, Chris Jordan, Khary Pierre, Ali Khan
Probable Top Performers
