Preview:
The Guyana Amazon Warriors began the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a close 13-run victory against St Lucia Zouks at home. The Providence Stadium in Guyana assisted the slow bowlers and the home team’s bowling line-up was suitable to it. They posted 155/9 in their 20 overs as most of them came up with the 20s and 30s. Warriors were good at pulling back the Zouks who were cruising at 52/2 in the 6th over.
They will now host St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Saturday night. The Carlos Brathwaite-led side suffered a close defeat in the tournament opener against the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders. The Knight Riders posted 152/7, a similar score to what Guyana made in their first game. The Patriots got a good opening stand but failed to accelerate and were bundled out for 141 in the end.
Weather Condition/Report:
Providence Stadium could be under the threat of rain on Saturday. Though the day in Guyana appears to be dry, the possibility of showers and drizzles in the night is quite high. The previous game started 2 hours early and so there was no question of rain.
Pitch Condition/Report:
The Providence Stadium could well come up with a low scoring match. The first game of the season here saw the spinners taking the majority of wickets. The batsmen didn’t find it easy to play their shots. Despite of all these, chasing will be a better option. The teams batting first could be reduced below 150 aiming to post 170-180 type totals.
Average first innings score: 157 (CPL matches since 2018)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 5, Lost – 3
