St Kitts and Nevis Patriots had everything going wrong for them in the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Rayad Emrit and Co could also have slumped in their previous game against the Jason Holder-captained Barbados Tridents. But Evin Lewis’ 60-ball 89 saved the day for them. They will be desperate to carry forward the momentum and climb their way up the points table.

The Patriots will next be facing the St Lucia Zouks in the first of Thursday’s doubleheader at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. In their previous meeting, the Zouks beat the Patriots by 10 runs and will be looking for a similar show. The Zouks are placed second in the points table despite their loss to the Knight Riders on Wednesday. Daren Sammy and Co will be keen to make amends.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the venue has been decent for batting and run-making hasn’t been all that tough. But the strip also has been a sporting one as the spinners have gotten a fair amount of assistance. Batting second should be the way forward. There are forecasts of rain with thunderstorms as well and hence interruptions are possible. The temperature will be around the 31 degrees Celsius mark.

The Zouks’ batting is in decent enough form. Mohamamd Nabi, Roston Chase and Andre Fletcher have accumulated 355 runs with two fifties from Chase. Afghanistan’s Nabi has been the most attacking with at a strike-rate of 144.57. Rahkeem Cornwall’s form has been a bit concerning though.

Najibullah and Deyal need to show some consistency as well. In the bowling department, Scott Kuggelejin has been the most effective, picking up 10 wickets from five games. Apart from his batting, Chase has bowled brilliantly as the off-spinner has five wickets at an economy of 4.80.

For the Patriots, Evin Lewis has been the standout, scoring 160 runs at an average of 40. But barring him, the rest of the batters are yet to up the ante. Ben Dunk smashed a few out of the ground last time to give his team it’s first victory. Denesh Ramdin needs to work on his low strike-rate of 92.63.

Chris Lynn hasn’t done much either, playing at an average of 16.25. In bowling, skipper Emrit has been effective with seven wickets at an economy of 5.60. Jon-Russ Jaggesar has four wickets as well. Sohail Tanvir hasn’t flattered to deceive as he has five wickets, though at an economy of 8.75.
