The 20th match of the CPL 2020 will see the Guyana Amazon Warriors taking on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on 30th August in what will be the last game at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain for the current season. The Patriots have had a ridiculously low tournament as they are seated at the bottom of the table with five losses in the six games they have played so far. There has not been even a single area that they have not faulted in and hence their abject state. In this match, they are coming after taking a beating by 37 runs from the Jamaica Tallawahs.

Rayad Emrit and his charges looked clueless in tackling Glenn Phillips, On the back of whose 79 off 61, the Tallawahs posted 147 at the loss of 6 wickets. In response, the Patriots were burnt by some fiery bowling of Carlos Brathwaite, Fidel Edwards, and spinner Sandip Lamichchane as they tumbled for a paltry score of 110. Probably, the only positive for them in the game was, yet another time, skipper Emrit’s show with the ball.

The other team, Guyana Amazon Warriors, has been only marginally better than Patriots as they have won two of their six games and are located a spot above on the table with four points. The Tridents have lost matches but not by such damaging margins to crush their net run rate. In their last game, they were up against a team that is yet to face a defeat- Trinbago Knight Riders.

Despite the invincibility of the Riders, the Warriors showed no spirit with either bat or ball. They were dismissed for an under-par total of 112 en route to which they lost 7 wickets. Their bowlers were not able to trouble even slightly as the Tridents went onto chase the target losing only 3 wickets and with 10 balls to spare.

This game is an ever-important clash for both the teams considering their performances as well as their positioning in the points tally.

Pitch and conditions

The track in the Port of Spain is a spinner’s delight and that has been the case for each of the 8 matches played. The new ball has given few offerings to the quicks but after that, it is all spinners. This being the second game of the day, the pitch will be all the more slower. There are thunderstorms expected, however, full 40 overs are on the cards.

Playing combinations

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The opening duties will once again be in the hands of Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj, as the latter has been called in again after Anthony Bramble failed to impress. Shimron Hetmyer finally got back to run, however, his stay did not appear convincing as he could manage 26 runs from 30 deliveries against the Riders.

Nicholas Pooran, who was promoted to No. 4 in the last game, continued to disappoint while Ross Taylor played a decent knock before perishing. Sherfane Rutherford is expected to play, however, he has had an extremely forgettable season thus far. Keemo Paul has been quite consistent with the ball though he went wicket-less in the last game after scoring an important 28 runs with the bat.

Skipper Chris Green has played the entire tournament as an all-rounder but not once has he clicked with the bat. Imran Tahir bowled beautifully and appeared to be the only bowler who troubled and made the batsman work hard for their runs. Naveen-ul-Haq has been in good form and will look to continue.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ross Taylor, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir, Ashmead Nedd.

BenchOdean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair, Jessy Singh, Kissoodath Magram.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Evin Lewis suffered a groin strain in the last game and though he came much lower down in the order in the previous game, the damage is not severe enough for him to miss out on the opening with Chris Lynn. Denesh Ramdin is expected to play at his routine position whereas Ben Dunk and Kieran Powell should follow him in the middle-order.

Skipper Emrit has been having a fantastic run with the ball and he bagged 3 wickets in the last game as well. Leggie Imran Khan had another incredible outing as he gave away only 7 runs in 4 overs and bagged a wicket. Sheldon Cottrell, however, leaked runs with both hands and looked completely lost. Jon-Russ Jaggesar’s story was worse as he went wicket-less.

Predicted XI- Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Nicholas Kelly, Ben Dunk, Kieran Powell, Rayad Emrit (C), Jon-Russ Jaggesar, Ish Sodhi, Sheldon Cottrell, Imran Khan.

BenchJoshua Da Silva, Jahman Hamiton, Sohail Tanvir, Alzarri Joseph, Colin Archibald, Dominic Drakes.
