The 22nd match of the CPL 2020 is scheduled to be played between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Barbados Tridents on 2nd September at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad. After 10 days of action in the Port of Spain, the tournament will be held at Trinidad for the remaining part.

The two teams have not met thus far in the tournament even though some teams have completed their reverse fixtures too. The Warriors find themselves at the third position with 4 losses and 3 wins in their 7 encounters thus far. On the other hand, the Tridents stand at the fifth position with only 2 wins and 5 losses from as many matches.

The Jason Holder-led men have made their time difficult and they have lacked intent, to the say the least. How else does one define the kind of performance they gave in their last encounter against St Lucia Zouks? The Tridents performed impeccably with the ball as they wrapped up the second-placed team for the paltriest of totals. But come to chasing 93 to win, they crashed worse than Facebook’s stocks did after the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The Zouks’ bowling line up proved to be too good for them as they tumbled for 87 runs and lost the match in the most inexplicable fashion.

Chris Green’s unit, contrarily, is coming after bullying the luckless St Kitts and Nevis Patriots courtesy a knock for the ages by Nicholas Pooran. The Caribbean showman has a reputation for being a demolisher and that is what he lived up to as he bludgeoned a century off only 45 balls included 10 mahoosive sixes. Chasing a decent target of 151, Ross Taylor ensured to hold an end up as Pooran kept banging with easing style.

Oozing with confidence after a brilliant victory, the Warriors will look to make a streak as they step out tonight, whereas the Tridents will look to make a comeback to keep themselves relevant in the hunt.

Pitch and conditions

The fast bowlers will have some time at their disposal before back to back matches turn the pitch into a spinner’s paradise. As today’s game will be played on a fresh pitch, it is expected to assist the quicks too apart from the spinners. Some thunderstorms are expected later towards the night but expect a full game.

Playing combinations

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Kevin Sinclair was paired alongside Brandon King expecting that the dry spell at the top might come to an end for the Warriors. However, Sinclair came out and did exactly what Chandrapaul Hemraj was doing before losing his place. Shimron Hetmyer has started to become a curious case after a magnificent start to the tournament.

The talk of the town, however, was Nicholas Pooran after his dashing century and a 128-run stand- of which he contributed 99- with Ross Taylor. Keemo Paul has made decent contributions with the bat and he is expected to play alongside skipper Chris Green.

Romario Shepherd, who has been slightly inconsistent, bowled extremely well in the last game. Both Ashmead Nedd and Naveen-ul-Haq have taken wickets regularly, though they surprisingly went wicket-less in the last game.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Kevin Sinclair, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Romario Shepherd, Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir, Ashmead Nedd

Bench- Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Jasdeep Singh, Kissoondath Magram, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford

Barbados Tridents

Johnson Charles failed to get going match after match and the only time he clicked, everyone else around him did a ‘Charles’. When Shai Hope came out to bat alongside him, it did look like the Tridents will script an easy chase over the Zouks. However, none amongst Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, Corey Anderson, and Ashley Nurse were able to apply themselves.

Anderson has tarnished his reputation of being a hard-hitter after an extremely cold series of performances whereas Holder too has not been able to justify his position as an all-rounder after his patchy performances.

Rashid and Mitchell Santner were going to be their key players since day one and they have performed quite well. The pick of the last game, however, was Hayden Walsh Jr, who was at the receiving end of Kieron Pollard’s ire in the previous game. Making a brilliant comeback, he picked 3 wickets giving only 19 runs whereas while Raymon Reifer finished with insane figures of 2 wickets in his solitary over.

Predicted XI- Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (WK), Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (C), Corey Anderson, Ashley Nurse, Rashid Khan, Mitchell Santner, Raymon Reifer, Nyeem Young, Hayden Walsh

Bench- Justin Greaves, Shamarh Brooks, Keon Harding, Joshua Bishop, Shayan Jahangir, Jonathan Carter
