The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are almost knocked out of the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), though they still have a glimmer of hope to progress to the semis. After being pounded by Nicholas Pooran’s 45-ball 100, Rayad Emrit and Co will be locking horns with Kieron Pollard’s Trinbago Knight Riders in the first of Wednesday’s doubleheader at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad.

On head-to-head, the Knight Riders are leading the Patriots by 10-4. Going into the next game, the odds will be in TKR’s favour since both teams have had completely different fortunes thus far in the championship. The Knights have gotten most boxes ticked and hence are the table-toppers. On the other hand, the Patriots are the cellar dwellers and are still searching for the right combination.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the venue has been more than decent to bat on. The team, batting second has had the advantage and hence, chasing should be the way forward. But the spinners will also play their part and it won’t be easy to get them away. There are chances of rain from 9AM to 11AM and hence, there could be regular interruptions. The temperature will be around the 30 degrees Celsius mark.

Playing Combinations

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Knight Riders have had their batting sorted at the top of the order. But that they managed to win against the Barbados Tridents without Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo in the eleven would give them a lot of confidence. Lendl Simmons would want to get amongst the runs at the earliest as well.

In TKR’s bowling attack, the spinners have mostly taken charge. Fawad Ahmed and Khary Pierre have been tough to get away. Kieron Pollard hasn’t picked up many wickets, but has been economical. He is also in jaw-dropping form with the bat. Ali Khan and Jayden Seales have been reasonable.

Probable XI

Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Tim Seifert (wk), Akeal Hosein, Kieron Pollard (C), Sikandar Raza, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales, Fawad Ahmed

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Patriots have strained with their batting unit. Evin Lewis has been their only shining light, scoring 197 runs at a strike-rate of 134.01. Chris Lynn has failed miserably and is due for a big knock going ahead. Ramdin and Dunk have around 140 runs each, but have to work on their low strike-rates.

Joshua Da Silva was in good form, scoring 59 against the Warriors. In bowling, Rayad Emrit remains to be their standout performer with 10 wickets. Imran Khan and Jon Russ Jaggesar have been amongst the wickets as well. The rest of the bowlers need to hit their mark at the earliest.

Probable XI

Chris Lynn, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ben Dunk, Nick Kelly, Rayad Emrit (C), Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, Ish Sodhi, Imran Khan, Jon-Russ Jaggesar

Probable Top Performers

Lendl Simmons– Trinbago Knight Riders| Chris Lynn– St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
