The Jamaica Tallawahs will lock horns with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 25th match of CPL 2020 on 3rd September, at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have closed their doors to move ahead after a lackluster campaign. They have been able to win only a single match and have faced a whopping 7 defeats to script one of the worst journeys in the history of the league. In their last game, they met the table-toppers, ones with a fate that is exactly opposite to theirs this year: Trinbago Knight Riders.

The Patriots’ surrendered in front of Lendl Simmons who smashed them all over the park during his blazing 96-run knock that took only 63 deliveries. Chasing an unlikely pursuit of 175, Rayad Emrit’s men threw the towel with the bat as well, as they got dismissed for a mere total of 115 at the loss of 7 wickets and handed the biggest victory to any team this year.

On the other hand, the Jamaica Tallawahs have had a blow-hot-blow-cold tournament thus far, as they have lost 4 whereas won 3 of the total 7 matches they have played. In this match, they are coming after being thrashed, again, by none others than Trinbago Knight Riders.

The Tallawahs’ bowling attack proved Rovman Powell’s decision to chase completely wrong as Colin Munro and Kieron Pollard gave them some nice beating before the Riders posted 184 on the board. Come to chasing, the Tallwahs did show some fight courtesy Andre Russell’s quick-fire 50 and Glenn Phillips’ effort at the top, however, that did not prove to sufficient and they got stranded at 165 after their 20 overs to eventually lose the game by 19 runs.

The remaining matches are only to be played for pride by the Patriots and they can certainly be the party-spoilers. On the flip side, Tallawahs would be desperate to pouch 2 points with the tournament nearing the business end.

Pitch and conditions

The track has been slightly two-paced in the last few encounters and the spinners have taken the wickets in heaps. There have been both high and low scoring matches in the last two games, however, the first game of the day has favored the batsmen more than the bowlers. Hence, some runs can be expected this time around as well.

Playing combination

Jamaica Tallawahs

Opener Chadwick Walton has had a nightmare this year, however, his partner Glen Phillips, who looked composed during his 41 against the Tridents, has consistently shone with the bat. Jermaine Blackwood and Nkumrah Bonner have got some starts but have not quite been able to hold onto those.

Andre Russell made a very unlike-him start to the tournament, although he has struck some form in the last few matches. Asif Ali’s case been has been the opposite of Russell as he was contributing earlier and has not been able to repeat in the last couple of games.  Carlos Brathwaite, who had a decent outing in the last game, will be the other men in the middle-order.

The spin twins Sandeep Lamichhane and Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman have taken loads of wickets bowling in tandem, though in the last game Rahman went wicket-less. Fidel Edwards leaked runs with both hands and needs to bowl with better control.

Predicted XI- Chadwick Walton, Glenn Philips, Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Asif Ali, Carlos Braithwaite, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman, Fidel Edwards

Bench- Oshane Thomas, Ramaal Lewis, Preston McSween, Nicholas Kirton

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Evin Lewis continued to disappoint as he scored only 5 with the bat in the last game. And though Chris Lynn and Joshua da Silva did how some resistance in front of the Riders’ might, their efforts were not backed by anyone else in the middle-order.

Ben Dunk’s lack of touch has been another major issue for the Patriots as, after 7 matches, he has not even a single inning of substance to show. Denesh Ramdin has got runs on the odd occasion but has not been consistent either. Skipper Rayad Emrit has been a delightful feature despite being a pacer in the tournament that is being ruled by the turners.

Dominic Drakes made a subtle comeback as he bagged a couple of wickets in the last game, although no other bowler apart from him and Sheldon Cottrell had any wickets to show in the last game. Having said that, Alzarri Joseph, Imran Khan, and Jon-Russ Jaggesar are expected to play.

Predicted XI- Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, Joshua Da Silva, Ben Dunk, Denesh Ramdin, Rayad Emrit, Dominic Drakes, Alzarri Joseph, Imran Khan, Jon-Russ Jaggesar, Sheldon Cottrell

Bench- Ish Sodhi, Sohail Tanvir, Kieran Powell, Jahmar Hamilton
