Faf du Plessis' Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has started to grind out victories in IPL 2023 at just the right moment as they edged past a formidable Lucknow Super Giants in their previous outing to make it three wins in four matches. A win in their upcoming fixture will further intensify their hunt for a place in the top four.

While much of the talk surrounded the infamous spat between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir after the conclusion of the match, it was the RCB bowlers who rose to the occasion to defend a below-par total in the second innings of the match. Josh Hazlewood's brilliant return to the side is a massive shot in the arm for the Bangalore-based outfit as they eye a victory against bottom dwellers Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Chinnaswamy.
Here's Royal Challengers Bangalore's predicted XI against Delhi Capitals:
Openers: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis was the highest run-scorer for his side on a sluggish track in Lucknow. He scored 44 runs in 40 deliveries and was named the Player of the Match, while all of his teammates struggled for fluency against Lucknow Super Giants. He is the leading run-scorer of the tournament so far, with 466 runs to his name in nine matches.
It was the opening stand between Faf and Virat Kohli which laid the platform for a headline victory against the home side. The duo added 62 runs for the first wicket, with the former RCB skipper scoring 31 runs in 30 deliveries. He was electric in the field for the Men in Red and Gold but his exploits were overshadowed after an ugly spat with LSG's Naveen-ul-Haq and Gautam Gambhir.
Middle Order: Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Suyash Prabhudessai, Anuj Rawat
RCB's batters struggle to cope against the spin attack of the home side in their previous outing, and explosive Aussie batter Glenn Maxwell also struggled for timing on a turbulent surface. Maxwell managed just four runs in his five deliveries before being trapped plumb in front by Ravi Bishnoi.
Although he failed to contribute with the bat, Maxwell chipped in with the crucial wicket of Krunal Pandya in his solitary over of the match, conceding just three runs. Mahipal Lomror was demoted down the batting order as the management tried to use him as a pinch hitter, however, that move backfired as he managed just three runs in his brief stay at the crease.
Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik tried to up the ante for the Bangalore-based outfit in the latter stages of the match. His 11-ball innings helped the side gain some momentum in the death overs, however, he was dismissed in the penultimate over of the first innings as he failed to make his ground in time.
Suyash Prabhudessai has shown glimpses of his talent in the ongoing 16th edition of the tournament, but even he was powerless against the LSG bowlers on a troublesome surface. Young Indian batter Anuj Rawat, who was subbed in, also failed to make an impact with the bat, scoring just nine runs in 11 deliveries.
Bowlers: Wanindu Hasaranga, Karn Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj
Sri Lankan spin-bowling ace Wanindu Hasaranga was almost unplayable on a spin-friendly surface in Lucknow. Although he managed just one wicket in his four-over spell, he was impeccable with his line and lengths, giving nothing away to the opposition batters. He returned with miserly figures of 1/20 in his four overs.
Karn Sharma was another spinner who rose to the occasion while defending a low score against LSG in his previous outing. The veteran Indian leggie enticed the opposition batters and essentially turned the match in RCB's favour, returning with the massive scalps of Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran in his four overs, conceding just 20 runs.
Star Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood made a spectacular return to the competition for the Bangalore-based franchise. The towering Aussie pacer, who missed the first half of the tournament due to injury, bagged two wickets, conceding just 15 runs in his three overs. His return to the side will play a pivotal role for RCB in the upcoming fixtures.
Mohammed Siraj's purple patch in the 16th edition of the competition continued against LSG as he gave a dream start to his side by dismissing the dangerous Kyle Mayers in the very first over of the second innings. He set the tone for the rest of the innings with his fiery bowling spell at the start of LSG's run chase.
