India will be heading into Australia for the T20 World Cup 2022 with their 15-member squad and four reserves in few days' time and it is very important to manage the injury prone players in the tournament. The Rohit Sharma led-side has already dealt two big blows in the form of Ravindra Jadeja missing out due to the knee surgery while Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to take part in the tournament given his recent back stress fracture injury.
The tight international schedule has played a big part in the players suffering injuries ahead of major ICC events. With two months of intense IPL action, the players have asked a lot out of their body and sometimes, it could be a concerning factor. Hardik Pandya’s fitness concerns in the previous T20 World Cup 2021 was a major issue behind India’s early exit and thankfully, the all-rounder is back at his full fitness.
With all that said, the management will also have to ensure they provide ample rest to the big names in the long tournament and here are 3 injury prone players India needs to take care ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.
1. Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian side in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 and this will be the first ICC event for him as a captain after taking the full-time leadership role. The right-hander has been in terrific touch with the bat and can demolish bowling attacks on his day. The 35-year-old has four T20I centuries to his name and his attacking mindset off-late has paid dividends.
However, one of the concerns over Rohit has been his fitness which could be a decisive factor in the tournament. During the recent T20I series in West Indies, Rohit suffered a back spasm and he had to retire hurt in the middle of his innings. He was rested for the final T20I to ensure that he regained his full fitness.
Over the years, Rohit has had problems with his hamstring and had missed a lot of important tours. Considering his immense potential, the management will need to look after Rohit with utmost care throughout the tournament.
