The ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle adds another layer of pressure on India. The team currently sits fifth in the WTC 2025-27 standings, having registered only four wins from nine matches. With nine Tests still remaining in the cycle, India need a strong run of results to keep their hopes of reaching the WTC final alive. Every victory will be crucial in improving their points tally and percentage.

The Sri Lanka series presents an excellent opportunity to gain valuable WTC points, but it also leaves little room for error. India will need to perform consistently across all departments to reduce the pressure and strengthen their chances of qualifying for another World Test Championship final.
