Another player DC could have targeted is Venkatesh Iyer, who eventually went to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for INR 7.00 crore. Iyer enjoyed a successful stint with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) over five seasons, scoring 1,468 runs and contributing with the ball as well. Although he endured a quieter season in 2025 after being bought for a hefty price at the mega-auction, his overall skill set remains valuable.
A left-handed batter who can open or bat in the middle order, Iyer also offers a seam-bowling option to the defending champions. Meanwhile, DC could have benefitted from his all-round abilities, particularly alongside Axar Patel, adding depth and flexibility to their line-up.
