Tim David has been a crucial member of Australia’s T20I squad, making a name for himself as a dependable finisher. However, despite his T20 heroics, the 29-year-old has featured in only four ODIs, with his last appearance in the format dating back to 2023.

Now, with Glenn Maxwell’s retirement from ODIs, David has a good chance of being part of Australia’s ODI setup. The right-hand batter has just 45 runs from four matches at a strike rate of 84.90. Meanwhile, his List-A records have been impressive. In just 20 List-A games, David has 790 runs at an average of 60.76 and a strike rate of 120.06. Notably, in the IPL 2025, David has become RCB’s go-to man, consistently scoring quick runs in the death overs under pressure.

The 29-year-old can be a handy off-spinner as he has taken 10 wickets at an average of 17.10 and an economy of 4.50 in 20 List-A matches. He could be a part-time bowling option, much like Maxwell once was. With Australia looking to revamp their ODI squad post the 2023 World Cup cycle and Maxwell’s exit creating a void, David could be one solid replacement
