<p>While some cricketers prefer to stay away from the sport after retirement, others take up different roles like commentary or coaching. Cricketers often say that they want to give back to the game by taking up coaching and grooming young talents who can make a name for themselves in the future.</p>
<p>Here, we look at some former cricketers who helped fellow players hone their craft by serving as a coach-cum-mentor after their retirements.</p>

<p>Yograj Singh is known for his intense but effective coaching techniques. He coached his son, Yuvraj Singh, during his early days and played a significant role in helping him become a world-class all-rounder. In recent times, he coached Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, for a brief period in 2022. The seam-bowling all-rounder went on to make his debut the very next year and put up some notable performances in domestic cricket.</p>

He also played 37 ODIs, but his average was a meagre 20.50. However, the right-handed batter's sound technique helped him score close to 6,000 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 48.86. He has coached many teams and helped several top batters get rid of technical flaws. Ajinkya Rahane, Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, and Prithvi Shaw are some of the notable cricketers who have benefited from Amre's suggestions.</p>

Jenner is regarded as one of the finest spin-bowling coaches of all time. He was fondly referred to as 'The Spin Doctor'. The legendary Shane Warne went to him whenever he was out of form. Even after shoulder surgery, it was Jenner's advice that helped Warne get back to his best.</p>

<p>Abhishek Nayar, the former India assistant coach, has helped many top-class cricketers achieve success or rediscover lost form. He was the one who suggested Dinesh Karthik to play the role of a finisher in the shortest format of the game. The wicketkeeper-batter performed the role commendably in the IPL and for Tamil Nadu and also made a comeback to the Indian team during the twilight stage of his career. Nayar also helped Rinku Singh become the player he is today by fine-tuning his skill sets. Rohit Sharma was also going through a lean phase with the bat in the 2024-2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and he worked closely with then-assistant coach Nayar. During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, after scoring a half-century against Chennai Super Kings, the Mumbai batter thanked the former all-rounder via a story on Instagram.</p>
