Asian Games 2026: Can India and Pakistan meet in the final?
Both teams have advanced to the semi-finals and a gold-medal clash on October 3 is now within reach.
The arch-rivals India and Pakistan can potentially meet in the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket final after both teams advanced to the semi-finals without playing their respective quarter-final matches. Rain forced the abandonment of India's clash against Afghanistan and Pakistan's game against Hong Kong, with the higher-seeded teams progressing to the last four.
The two sides have been placed on opposite sides of the knockout draw, meaning they cannot face each other in the semi-finals. However, if both India and Pakistan win their respective semi-final matches on October 1, they will meet in the gold-medal match on October 3.
India and Pakistan advance to semi-finals
Pakistan were scheduled to face Hong Kong in the first quarter-final, while India were due to take on Afghanistan in the second quarter-final on September 28. However, both matches were washed out due to rain, without a ball being bowled. As per the tournament rules, the higher-seeded team advances to the semi-finals in case a quarter-final is abandoned. India and Pakistan therefore progressed to the last four based on their higher ICC T20I rankings.
Pakistan is scheduled to play the winner of the Bangladesh versus Malaysia quarter-final in the first semi-final on October 1. India, meanwhile, will face the winner of the Sri Lanka versus Nepal quarter-final in the second semi-final on the same day. This means India and Pakistan are separated in the knockout draw and can only meet in the final if both teams win their respective semi-finals.

When can India and Pakistan meet?
If both India and Pakistan win their semi-final matches, then the arch-rivals will face each other in an epic gold-medal match on October 3. On the other hand, there is also a possibility of the two sides meeting in the bronze-medal match. However, that would require both India and Pakistan to lose their respective semi-finals.
The bronze-medal match and the gold-medal final are both scheduled for October 3, bringing the possibility of an India-Pakistan clash at the business end of the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket competition.
