Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was one of the most iconic cricketers for India in international cricket. Riding on his extraordinary batting efforts, the Men in Blue won T20 World Cup final and the 2011 World Cup final and became the world champions. The southpaw did a great job as a batter for India but he didn’t get a chance to captain the team as a regular skipper.

He led Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and for the latter, he won a couple of titles in 2012 and 2014. In the cash-rich league’s 2012 edition, Gambhir led Knight Riders to a title win for the first time, snatching the coveted trophy from MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

In 2014, Knight Riders lifted the trophy again under Gambhir’s leadership, beating Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in the final at the M. Chinnawamy Stadium. Thus far, he is the only captain to win the IPL trophy multiple times along with the CSK skipper MS Dhoni and Mumbai Indians’ (MI) captain Rohit Sharma.
