The Ajit Agarkar-led senior selection committee met in New Delhi on September 16, 2026, to pick India's squads for the upcoming West Indies series. The announcement covered both the ODI and T20I formats, with the ODI leg beginning in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27 and the T20I leg starting in Lucknow on October 6.

Despite the clash with the Asian Games, both squads look star-studded but raise questions about the long-term direction of the squad, with upcoming marquee series and future planning. We take a look at three such high-profile selection questions.

Here are 3 biggest selection questions for India's squad vs WI:

1. Why has Nitish Kumar Reddy pulled out of the Asian Games squad?

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was originally part of the Asian Games squad, has been withdrawn from that assignment and included in the ODI squad for the West Indies series. The selection committee named Reddy as the principal pace-bowling all-rounder in the 15-member ODI group led by Shubman Gill.

This decision could point to the BCCI looking to groom Reddy for the longer formats, where they believe he could thrive. However, he has also been included in the T20I squad for the same series, meaning he will be involved across both formats during the West Indies tour.
