In the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction 2023, the franchises splurged a lot of money to have an incredible campaign in the 2023 season. At the event, some franchises purchased opening batters who could win the tournament for them with their fearless batting style.

In the last 15 seasons of the league, there have been many instances when openers made a huge contribution to their team's title victories. Back in 2011 and 2012, Michael Hussey (492 runs in 14 matches) and Gautam Gambhir (590 runs in 17 games) played a crucial role as openers to help Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) respectively to claim their first trophies.

In 2016 again, David Warner was influential as an opening batter scoring 848 runs in 17 games to help Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to win their first and only title. In the last edition too, Shubman Gill (483 runs in 16 matches) played a vital part at the top to help Gujarat Titans win their maiden trophy on debut.

After witnessing these statistics, it can be said that any franchise that dreams to win the title should have openers who could deliver top-notch performances. At the 2023 auction too, some openers grabbed great deals from franchises and now, their owners will expect them to deliver batting figures that can win them the prestigious IPL trophy.

Below are three opening batters who attracted handsome amounts at 2023 mini-auction:

3. Will Jacks

This year has been fantastic for the English cricketer Will Jacks as he made his international debut against Pakistan in the T20I series. Playing his first international game, he looked ferocious as an opener with his 40-run innings off just 22 balls against the Men in Green. The Surrey cricketer decorated his innings with eight fours.

Noting his ability with the bat, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were involved in a bidding war at the 2023 mini-auction to get his services. In the end, RCB were successful as they acquired him at INR 3.2 crore. In the upcoming tournament, he will look forward to doing justice to his amount by delivering some dashing innings to his franchise.

Playing for his domestic team Surrey, the 24-year-old has been outstanding as an opening batter. Relying on his potential and past performances, RCB will also look for good numbers from him. Though he is a back-up right now, Jacks, if given an opportunity, can turn the game on its head with his batting.
