2. Angelo Mathews

Angelo Mathews has been a run-bank for Sri Lanka in Tests and ODIs. In the longest format of the game, the former Sri Lankan skipper has aggregated 6953 runs in 100 games at an average of 45.14. When it comes to ODIs, he notched up 5835 runs in 218 matches at an average of 41.67. Besides his batting might, the 35-year-old has been a vital contributor with the ball.

However, the veteran batter has not been able to crack the code in the shortest format. Mathews has featured in 78 T20Is and managed 1148 runs at a mediocre strike rate of 117.74. Also, he has failed to set the Indian Premier League ablaze with his batting exploits and scored 724 runs in 49 games at a strike rate of 125.91.

Mathews, who is in the twilight of his career, has not featured in a T20I game since March 2021 and an IPL match since May 2017. Given the Sri Lankan batter has neither aced the shortest format in his playing days nor featured in high-profile T20 competitions of late it was a surprise to see the Colombo-born set his base price to INR 2 crore for the upcoming auction.

Moreover, Mathews has had a fair share of injury concerns in the past, and to avoid another injury scare, he does not prefer bowling much. So, with the ace batter mainly offering a single skillset it might be difficult for him to make a comeback to the cash-rich league.
