The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Final is set to take place between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings on Tuesday, June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB sealed their spot in the final after defeating PBKS in Qualifier 1, while the Punjab-based franchise made a comeback by beating five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday.

With the clash between PBKS and MI already witnessed rains at Motera, speculations are now rising about possible rain on the day of the Final. But, the organizers have planned for weather interruptions, a reserve day on June 4 has been set aside if rain spoils play on the scheduled day. Additionally, there is a provision for 120 minutes of extra time on both days to accommodate any rain delay, after which the overs are lost - here, 9:30 PM IST.

Moreover, the cut-off time for a five-overs-a-side game is 11.56 PM IST, and if the rain persists, the match will move on to the Reserve Day, which is June 4. The same cut-off times and playing criteria apply for the Reserve Day as well, however, if the additional day is also washed out, the game will unfortunately be called off.

What if rain disrupts play on both Match Day and Reserve Day?

As per the IPL rules, in such a scenario, the team that finished higher in the points table at the end of the league stage will be declared the winner. The Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS, who finished first in the points table with 19 points, would be awarded the IPL 2025 trophy if no result is possible on both days.

“16.11.2 - If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the League table (in accordance with clause 16.10) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” the playing condition law reads.

The stage is already set for the highly anticipated final, both PBKS and RCB, two franchises that have been a part of the IPL for 18 years will be looking to claim their maiden IPL trophy. The fans and the cricketing world are awaiting the historic achievement.
