Mumbai Indians have always been a team of match-winners. Their squad is packed every year with game-changing players who are capable of turning matches on their own. From franchise veterans like Keiron Pollard, Lasith Malinga and Rohit Sharma, to newer faces, MI possesses a proud heritage of match-winners in the truest sense. The 2025 season was a mixed bag for Mumbai Indians. They did well to make the playoffs, righting the wrongs of 2024’s last-placed finish, but you would assume that nothing but the trophy would be considered as a satisfying season for the five-time champions. In their five previous triumphs, they have been led by multiple different match-winners. After taking over the reins in 2024, success has eluded the all-rounder, with a last-place finish and a playoff spot in his two seasons. He will be looking to add silverware to his cabinet and what better way to part in that process than by contributing with bat and ball. A destructive batter and bowler who picks up crucial wickets, Hardik is a game-breaker with both bat and ball in hand. Now with the added responsibility of captaincy, the onus is on him to step up and play vital roles. He has played crucial knocks and bowled important spells under the tutelage of the veterans of the franchise. Now as the senior player, it is his time to shine. 4) Naman Dhir Naman Dhir. He has stepped up with his destructive and innovative batting, playing crucial supporting knocks. With 252 runs at a blistering strike rate of 182.61 in the last season, Dhir was a revelation for the five-time champions in the back-end of the innings. Now into his third season with the franchise, he will be touted to take up more responsibility. Mumbai retained the Punjab batter using their RTM in the recent Mega Auction, a testament to how much faith they have in his talent. And he has definitely repaid that faith, stepping up whenever necessary. He has been part of the support cast till now, but when the question comes to protagonist, Dhir definitely has the ability to lead the way. 3) Will Jacks Will Jacks (Source: IPL/X) From finding his place in the England white-ball set-up as a finisher who is reliable with the ball, to a tumultuous Ashes campaign where he was picked as England's lead spinner over Shoaib Bashir and then being the Three Lions’ best player in the 2026 T20 World Cup, picking up four Player-of-the-Match awards, Will Jacks' last 12 months have been a rollercoaster ride. His ability with the bat is impressive, being able to muscle the ball over the boundary with ease, but it is his bowling that has improved to a point he is become a reliable and genuine threat as an all-rounder. He was a bane for left-handers throughout the T20 World Cup, a throwback to captain Hardik Pandya using him similarly last year in the IPL as a match-up bowler. The veteran opener has taken the Mumbai Indians over the line on uncountable occasions, and with five triumphs, is unarguably the one of the greatest captain in the history of the IPL. Rohit has retired from Tests and T20Is, with ODIs still being the only format where he represents the national team. With 418 runs in 15 games in the previous IPL season, he showed that he still has it, scoring four half-centuries, including match-winning knocks against the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Mumbai would want him at his best to launch innings with fireworks at the top of the order. 1) Jasprit Bumrah Jasprit Bumrah. His 1/35 in the semifinal dented an England side which looked to run away with the game despite a mammoth 254 chase, while his spell of 4/15 in the final broke the back of the New Zealand innings. With 183 wickets in the tournament, Bumrah is Mumbai’s leading wicket-taker in the competition, and will be looking to add to that in the following season. He has been a vital cog in four of MI’s five title triumphs and now stands as a veteran of the franchise, an ever-reliable presence in the middle when he takes the ball.
