Overview

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will look to bounce back strongly when they take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, April 3.

The five-time champions started their campaign with an eight-wicket defeat against the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati earlier this week. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings had to fight hard in their opening fixture against Gujarat Titans to secure a three-wicket win in the last over.

Shreyas Iyer and Co. have got off to a fine start and would love to double their points with a win on Friday. On the other hand, Ruturaj Gaikwad's men would want to bank on home advantage and get off the mark at one of the most iconic venues in the country.

Prashant Veer: Prashant Veer was expected to fill the shoes of Ravindra Jadeja after the young all-rounder was bagged for a whopping INR 14.20 crore. However, he had to wait on the bench in the first game.

Rahul Chahar: The experienced leg-spinner could make his CSK debut on Friday as the Chepauk pitch has historically favoured the spinners.

Sarfaraz Khan: Sarfaraz Khan came in as the Impact Player in the last game and scored 17 off 12 balls. He could be seen playing a similar role, especially if CSK lose wickets upfront.

Gurjapneet Singh: Gurjapneet Singh is a talented left-arm pacer who represents Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket. He is yet to make his IPL debut.

Ramakrishna Ghosh: Ramakrishna Ghosh is a fast-bowling all-rounder who hails from Nashik, Maharashtra. He has been with the side since last season but hasn't earned his maiden cap yet.

Priyansh Arya: Priyansh Arya walked out as the Impact Player, replacing Yuzvendra Chahal. However, the talented opener failed to make an impression, getting out for just seven runs.

Harpreet Brar: Harpreet Brar has been with the Punjab Kings side for the last few seasons and played crucial roles with bat and ball. He is an accurate left-arm spinner who gets a decent amount of turn and bounce.

Praveen Dubey: Praveen Dubey is an experienced leg-spinner who has been in and around a few IPL teams but never really had a long run. He could come in handy on the Chepauk pitch.

Vishnu Vinod: Vishnu Vinod is a hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter whose opportunities in the IPL have been few and far between. It will be tough for him to break into the strong PBKS batting lineup unless Prabhsimran Singh misses a game here and there.

Suryansh Shedge: The seam-bowling all-rounder played five matches last season for Punjab Kings. He is expected to get a look in at some point in the tournament.

Expert Opinion and Final Prediction

  • Home Advantage: The MA Chidambaram Stadium was once considered a fortress for the Chennai Super Kings. While recent results haven't been great, expect the team to bank on home support on Friday.
  • Recent Form: Punjab Kings have won six out of the last seven matches against Chennai Super Kings.
  • Balanced Side: Punjab Kings look the more balanced side and the more confident one as well.

Prediction: With a lot of factors in their favour, Punjab Kings enter this match as favourites. However, count CSK out at your own peril.
