In cricket, scoring a century, especially in the Test format is one of the most prestigious and challenging milestones for any batter. It requires patience and concentration. While many have gone on to score hundreds in both innings of a Test, some have fallen heartbreakingly short of the mark, dismissed on 99, which is considered among the unluckiest score to be getting out for a batter.

Losing one’s wicket just one run away from a Test century can be devastating, both emotionally and mentally, for the player, and remains etched in the memory of fans as well. Today, CricTracker has a look at three of the most recent batters who suffered this dismissal on 99 in international cricket:

England’s middle-order batter Harry Brook missed out on a well-deserved century in the first Test against India at Headingley, Leeds. Brook was dismissed for 99 off 112 balls by Prasidh Krishna. His innings was laden with 11 boundaries and 2 sixes, and was instrumental in reducing the deficit against a strong Indian bowling attack.

However, in his attempt to bring up the hundred with a six, Brook mistimed a hook shot off a short delivery and found Shardul Thakur at deep backward square leg, who completed the catch with ease.
