3. Test retirement
Modern-day Indian great Rohit Sharma’s decision to retire from Test cricket in 2025 was one of the most shocking moments of his illustrious career. Announced through a social media post on May 07, the decision brought the curtains down on an 11-year journey in whites, during which he transitioned from a late bloomer into a dependable opener and eventually the captain. The right-handed batter featured in 67 Tests, scoring 4,301 runs, including 12 centuries to his name.
His Test career was never constant, with a late debut, early struggles, a revival as an opener in 2019, and standout knocks. Though his final phase was hampered by a dip in form, Rohit chose to exit from the longest format of the game. With this, he now only serves the Men in Blue in the 50-over format that too, as a specialist batter, since the BCCI has made Shubman Gill the captain.
